Many of the items in this National Union Catalogue are modified copies of original print texts created by Ireland's third level educational institutions. These participating institutions are 'designated bodies' under S.I. 406 of 2000, Provision of Modified Works (for the Disabled) S104 and are thereby authorised by Sections 104 and 252 of the Copyright and Related Rights Act, 2000, to make and supply a modified copy of a work to an individual with a physical or mental disability without infringing the copyright of that work. Subsequent sale, rental or loan of this modified copy to a member of the public is strictly forbidden by copyright law and could result in fines or imprisonment. The intention of this statement is to ensure that copyright owners are respected and that the exemptions made for individuals with disabilities are not jeopardised.
