Text Access Discussion List
The TEXTACCESS discussion list was established in response to suggestions from people working in the area of access and disability support in Ireland's third level educational institutions. The purpose of this discussion list is two-fold:- to provide a forum for the discussion of disability and access issues in Ireland's third level institutions and
- to facilitate the sharing of relevant information and resources among the universities and institutes of technology.
The TEXTACCESS list will likely be of greatest use to the Library, Disability, and Assistive Technology staff in third level institutions who are responsible for supporting student access to textual materials. Examples of the types of topics and questions that may be asked include:
- "Where can I find a screen magnifier for a student's PC?"
- "We need to buy a brailler. Any advice?"
- "Where in the WWW can I find full text versions of the works
on my class reading list?"
- "We are having difficulty brailling some mathematical equations
in an economics textbook. Any suggestions?"
- "How do we know if our library web site is 'accessible' or not?"
- "Where can we find training in Assistive Technology for our staff?"
Students and others with a special interest in this area are also welcome to join the TEXTACCESS discussion list from the following address: http://listserv.heanet.ie/textaccess.html
